I want to spread a little kindness to you tonight from the Savior’s heart. In one of the most well-known verses in scripture, Jeremiah 29:11 God says “For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you….plans to give you hope, and a future” (I am quoting from memory so the phrasing may not be precisely the same). We know this but I tend to get caught up in the necessity of us being good for this to happen. I will be honest that in those times that I fall short and stumble and land up facedown on the ground from sin and temptation, I tend to forget that God is still for me. But the cross of Christ paid the price for every sin. He bore in His body, my sin on the cross. God is not against you when you have failed him, even most miserably. He is waiting for your repentance not of condemnation, but of redemption that He provided you through the shedding of His own blood on a cross. Are there consequences for sin? Yes. But God being for us, and having good things in store for us, is not dependent on our goodness, it is fixed in His goodness. God chastises those He loves, I’ve found this most often in the form of guilt and sadness when I do wrong, but His promise that He has for us a hope and a future is not made void in the midst of chastisement. He betters us with His rod of correction, and then lifts us up out of self-pity and guilt and places our feet on higher ground. If you belong to Christ, He is for you, no matter what you do, no matter what it looks like. Are you feeling condemned? He promises that there is now, therefore, no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Don’t allow the enemy to keep you in the bondage of shame and fear when you have sinned. For if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Jesus paid the penalty for our sins and the Father was satisfied with His sacrifice. We are brought to redemption and the love of the Father through the blood of His Son. Turn from iniquity, bear the chastisement, and walk on in victory, not bondage. He loves us….oh what a Savior He is. He still has plans for us, and nothing in hell or on earth can stop what He has willed.
